Raising awareness

Picture

Through its daily work in prisons, DAS has gained a wealth of experience of and knowledge about the issues and problems affecting foreign national prisoners and immigration detainees.

We use this experience and knowledge to raise awareness of the needs of these groups, and to promote policy responses to them that are centred on fairness and effectiveness.

Monthly newsletter
DAS' monthly newsletter provides a round-up of our news and updates, as well as policy developments, research and publications and media coverage relating to foreign national prisoners and detention.

Annual conference

Our annual conference brings together a wide range of individuals and organisations involved with foreign national prisoners and immigration detainees - including practitioners, policy makers and academics - to discuss current issues affecting these groups, as well as to identify areas where change is needed, and the steps that should be taken to achieve this.

Consultation responses, publications and the media

We also respond to relevant consultations, produce our own publications and briefings and contribute to the media to raise a wider awareness of the needs of and problems experienced by foreign national prisoners and detainees.

Networks
We contribute to a number of networks that work for improvements and change in the areas of criminal justice and immigration detention.
