How we can help

Picture
_DAS is an independent legal charity founded in 1992 to provide advice, information and support to those detained or threatened with detention under immigration powers.

We are authorised by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) to provide immigration advice. All DAS advice workers are Level 2 OISC advisers, which means that they are able to conduct casework. We have also been awarded the Advice Quality Standard by the Advice Services Alliance. Our services are provided to clients free of charge.

_Advice work
Our advice workers regularly visit prisons across London and the south of England to provide immigration advice, information and support to foreign national prisoners and detainees held at these sites.

DAS is a national service, and for prisoners and detainees held at prisons and immigration removal centres that we do not visit, we can provide advice via phone and post. We also advise those who work with and visit foreign national prisoners and detainees.

Leaflets outlining the service we offer to clients, which are available in a number of different languages, can be downloaded here.

Training
We offer training for those working with foreign national prisoners and detainees to help ensure a better understanding of their needs and to promote effective ways of working with them. We also provide training, information and support to community groups.

Useful information
You can find information about immigration bail, finding a solicitor, and early removal schemes on this website.

You can also find information about further help and support for foreign national prisoners and immigration detainees, as well as their family and friends, and details of the key relevant statutory agencies and independent monitoring bodies.
